Now or Later - 25 September 2008
Our much-anticipated Outing to Now or Later at the Royal Court last night (25 September) more than lived up to expectations, with principal company members Eddie Redmayne, Matthew Marsh, Pamela Nomvete and director Dominic Cooke taking part in a lively post-show Q&A session.
Running at a brisk 80 minutes with no interval, Now or Later is a tense and timely US election drama, set on results night in the hotel room of the Democratic candidate’s son (Eddie Redmayne). With compromising photos spreading like wildfire on the web, the President-in-waiting (Matthew Marsh) must try and persuade his stubborn and highly-intelligent offspring to release a statement of apology.
Amongst the topics discussed in the Q&A were the effects that the current election had on the rehearsal process, the company’s consultations with the likes of Cherie Blair and Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager (who apparently wrote a press statement based on the situation presented in the play in just ten minutes), and the reason for the play’s rejection by the New York theatre scene.
Please do feel free to email your comments and thoughts about the play and the evening through to feedback@whatsonstage.com, and keep an eye out for a full transcription of the Q&A, which will be live on the site later today.
Also, don’t forget to check the homepage for details of upcoming Outings and events.
Thanks again to all who came last night, see you next time!
