Eurobeat - 08 September

It was flags and clackers a-go-go last night (08 September) at our much-anticipated Outing to spoof Eurovision musical Eurobeat at the Novello theatre.

Sticking closely to the format of the annual show, Eurobeat has enough cheesey songs, bad jokes, dodgy accents and even dodgier wigs to sate the hunger of even the most avid Eurovision fan. And to add to the fun our first 25 bookers collected a free ‘party pack’ - replete with horn, clacker and flag of their choice (Greece proved strangely popular!). The show was a predictably noisy affair, and when the text votes had been counted, the spandex-clad Russian boyband emerged victorious.

After the show, our theatregoers headed en masse to the Novello’s Waldorf bar, where the majority of the cast (many still wearing microphones and make-up!) were waiting to chat about the show. Les Dennis and Mel Giedroyc, who play hosts Sergei and Boyka, proved particularly popular and were more than happy to sign autographs and pose for photos (see above). Also present were the director Glynn Nicholas, choreographer Andrew Hallsworth and former I’d Do Anything contestant Ashley Russell (who was previously linked with the show). Such a strong turn-out was greatly appreciated, particularly considering it was the eve of the show’s press night.

A huge thanks to all who took part, see you next time!

Please do feel free to email your comments and thoughts about the play and the evening through to feedback@whatsonstage.com, or why not contribute your own review of the show?
