I Hate it when people call shows like Joseph, Maria, Nancy, Come Dancing, Britains Got Talent, XFactor etc., etc. as reality shows, they are NOT reality shows - they are believe it or not ENTERTAINMENT SHOWS, especially in the latter stages, the earlier stages I cannot stand to see the dross that appear who think they have some sort of talent. You need talent to win these shows (obviously lies in the eye of the beholder as some of the past winners were horribly voted in by the very unpredicatable British voting public, who sometimes seemed to resemble the Eurovision Song Contest panel in their voting.
REALITY SHOWS are when people are subjected to basically 7/24 hours television on them and no talent is needed to be in them, at the beginning or at the end of the show, (supposedly famous seems the criteria - not talent).
Big Brother, Something or other Island, Hairdressers was one I think, and various off shoots of the same genre I would call Reality Television, very boring to watch generally, whats that about watching paint dry on the wall, I did watch a few at the beginning, then they eventually went down hill.
I suppose you could call The Apprentice, Dragons Den as reality shows as well as some of the people are brought to earth about their projects.
I suppose you would call the soaps, East Enders, Coronation Street, Emmerdale as reality shows rather than soaps, because they are not what you would generally call ENTERTAINMENT SHOWS and are nearer to what I think YOU class as Reality Shows, but they are really mini-series plays for want of a different description.
What do I mean by ENTERTAINMENT SHOWS, generally what reality shows are not, Entertainment is Music, Dancing, Singing, Comedy etc , The 2 Ronnies as an example, etc.
Please can you let me/us know what you define as the difference between Reality Shows and Entertainment Shows, or is Entertainment not in the modern descriptive vocabulary nowadays.
