Results Show: The Lord gets his wish

Ttonight we were shown details of a Nancy mission, which should have been shown yesterday. But, this would have affected the voting process! Each girl had to learn how to perform stunts. Ashley and Rachel proved to be really great actresses. But Barry still insisted that the Irish pro should be going home.

Jodie was just too nice and asked the stunt man if he was ok, rather than continue with the performance. So, the actresses with the most mettle were Rachel and Ashley. Even Jodie commented that she would not want to bump into Ashley in a dark alley way. Perfect credentials for a great, potential Nancy then!

When asked who was the strong actress, John Barrowman said Rachel.

The group song was “Nobody Does It Better” and again, Jessie was very weak in this number, as was Niamh. The young ones are not faring well, although the panel keep calling them the best. Barry loved Jessie, DVO said Niamh was her fave and Andrew was a bit creepy about Samantha yet again.

OLIVERS’ NANCY
The Olivers picked Niamh to be their Nancy in a group rendition of “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.” She looked their sister, rather than a maternal figure. But the Lord insisted that she had a “motherly quality.” Does this man ever go back on his word, even though he is making such strange claims, like that it would be ok to have an Irish Nancy?!

NOT NANCY - JUDGES’ VIEWS
When asked who was NOT Nancy, John spoke sense and said: Jessie. DVO, chose Ashley and Barry said Rachel.

RESULTS
Clearly the viewers (if any of them are actually voting after another scandal this week) agreed and Samantha was first through, followed by the ever so grateful Jodie. Poor Rachel was kept back and told she ‘might’ be in the sing off. This show is starting to use American Idol style twists!

Jessie was next through, inexplicably. Ashley was in the sing off. Rachel was told she was through, after all. This left Niamh in the sing-off.

ASHLEY VS. NIAMH
As Graham says the immortal lines, “Andrew could still save you” to Ashley; the poor girl’s face said it all! But this feisty lass sang her heart out during “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” - out-performing the inexperienced Niamh. This youngster sang the song with no heart and vocally it was very off key. Ashley, though acted her socks off, knowing this is a true showcase.

The Lord pretended to judge it based on the sing-off and told Ashley she was out-of-tune, using the comment like a get out of jail card. Not judging the song, whatsoever, he sent Ashley home and kept the vocally weak kitten, instead.

HE NEEDS ME, TOO LATE!
Then Ashley delivered her exit song with such grace, dignity and heartfelt emotion, that for the first time, I believed she could be Nancy. I wish her all the best as she proved to be really steely and never embarrassed herself once by retorting to Andrew’s rudeness.

Hopefully, next week, some of these weaker girls will go.

I totally, hundred percent agree. Jessie-what? how did she get through? and Jodie-oh dear me…. Rachel should have been down there too. Niamh was a worthy candidate for the bottom 2, as she is NOT Nancy-but it shouldn’t have been Ashley and once she was there her fate was inevitable. Her performance of As Long As He Needs Me was fantastic-best of the series and she was oh so dignified when speaking to the evil Lord-all I can say is I am soo disappointed-I genuinely think there are no other great Nancys left.

  2. PegWood Says:

I think the way ALW treated Ashley throughout the series was completely inexcusable and uncalled for. I don’t think any artist should criticise another in a manner that is totally un-productive and rude. I think Ashley is probably much better off getting out the show and finding something else where she will be appreciated and have the chance to show her talent.

  3. Jennell Says:

I agree with the above comments, especially concerning ALW’s treatment of Ashley. The way it seems to me is he just didn’t like her on a PERSONAL level. This unfortunately influenced every dealing he had with her which was very unprofessional of him. In life we always have some people we like more than others and we have to deal with this. I sing in a choir which has toured Europe and I also play in an orchestra and I admit that there are folk I do not care for. However, I have to work with these people and I make strenuous efforts to get along well with them. ALW does not appear to be capable of doing this. However, I am sure Ashley will get her chance as she has been so pleasant despite everything.

As for the others, well, we have Jodie, who when in a fight scene stopped to ask if her opponent was O.K., Niamh, who sang with the boys, looked about 12 while doing it and then was described by ALW as Motherly, {HUH?}, Jessie, who can’t dance, has bad posture, and sounds so Irish I can’t understand what she says or sings, Rachel, who isn’t bad but doesn’t seem to be consistent in her performances and Sam. Oh help—-!!!!

I think my theory that ALW wants the show to be a flop so it doesn’t take custom from HIS shows is coming true. Anyhow, I think ALW ants Jessie to win. Why else would he spout that rubbish about Nancy being Irish. He can’t have read the book–as Dickens was good at writing the way folk spoke and if Nancy had been Irish it would have been obvious—-

Unfortunately many of the voters appear to take head of ALW’s comments.

  4. Jennell Says:

Please excuse the error above, I meant ALW wants not ants—-my toddler jogged my elbow—-

  5. Jeanne Says:

Both Jessie and Sam sang one of my all time favourite songs, and the latter went up in my estimation, and Jessie went down.

Sam has the best stage presence I feel; she seems the most comfortable on stage, followed by Rachel. I really like Rachel, but I think her softer more genuine side doesn’t come out in her performance.

Jodie was given a boring song, yet again. But to me she’s still the best. In her pitch to the Olivers she *demonstrated* her maternal side; Naimh just stood there looking out of place saying “I want to prove I have a maternal side” - no genuine maternal person would say that - their maternal instincts would shine through naturally (like Jodie). I can’t believe the Olivers chose her.

Whilst Jessie may or may not be ALW’s favourite, Naimh seems to be the panel’s favourite, followed by ‘The Isle of Sam’ (LOL) That Barry Humphries is a dirty old goat by the way! But back to Naimh - WHY do the panel keep saying she has stage presence and leading lady quality??? Madness…

In Jessie’s defence, none of the Nancys should have been given Fighter. What a terrible terrible song!!! As for the complaints about her shouting, I suggest you listen to Christina Aguilera, Grammy award winner, sing Fighter. Quite a bit of shouting, isn’t there? Better yet, watch Christina Aguilera sing Fighter live on YouTube. The results are eye-opening! How about some perspective - can you imagine if Jodie or Niamh tried to sing Fighter? They would look even more ridiculous. Jessie got through because of her track record. Simply, she has put in the best performances OVERALL. As for her accent, if it was so bad, don’t you think it would stick out in the group performances? Jessie for Nancy!

  7. Leafy Says:

I totally agree. Jessie has been my fave from the beginning. I thought the song was terrible and shouldn’t have been given to any of the girls. Jessie has proved that she’s got a beautiful voice. Let’s face it - Nancy doesn’t have to perform anything like Fighter in the show! However, I’m coming round more to the idea of Rachel as Nancy. But then, I would have had Niamh out weeks ago, so what do I know? She’s a lovely girl but she could never be Nancy - she looks all wrong and hasn’t got a powerful enough voice. ALW obviously had it in for Ashley; he was inexcusably rude to her and it was obvious she wouldn’t survive the sing-off even though her performance was far better than Niamh’s. Sam did well but watch her sing Somewhere a few weeks back. She has no strength or control in her voice. I can’t see her belting out As Long As He Needs Me. She reminds me of Siobhan in the Maria show. Jodie isn’t right either. Her acting is very unconvincing for me. I think Jessie and Rachel should definitely be in the final 3 but not sure who else.

  8. Jennell Says:

Jessie’s accent does stand out in group numbers. I am German and I speak four languages and I notice accents–however, I do agree that Fighter is a terrible song–though a lot of the songs everyone has been given are terrible to me–also their clothing—-

Jessie is going to win though. I do not like her but she is going to win so if you like her you can go to the show–it would be difficult for me to go anyhow as I have four kids and the youngest two are under 2—-

  9. Bing Says:

I agree that the panel were all on the nasty pills last weekend - but not really a surprise as things are going to get tougher toward the end….. though I agree it might have something to do with the Beeb phone scandals, the very reason I don’t vote myself - even though 2 of the girls are from within a 15 mile radius of my hometown.

Jodie - A great singer, though a bit old for Nancy - Anybody else think her eyes are scary???

Jessie - Beautiful curly Irish girl, great smile and voice (clearly ALW’s fav - but then he always had a soft spot for curly haired toothy girls!) Nancy? No, but she will fare well on the stage no doubt.

Niamh - A young Bernadette Peters, both in looks and voice - But not right for this role.

Rachel - Perhaps the most consistent and with the most stage experience - definitey a safe bet for the role of Nancy, but will the public think so?

Samantha - A beautiful talented girl, though more of a pop singer and lacks the experience the West End stage will demand.

On the girls performances; Not one impressed me on Sat. night. BUT WHAT REALLY PEEVES ME OFF is that, at the end of the day, ALW gets to choose who gets the bump - and I bet, that when push comes to shove he will get exactly who he wants for the role.

And another thing which PEEVES me off! I was sucked in with the Joseph thing as well and thought, from the start that Lee would win (for the same reason I think Rachel will win). But what is the point of the expulsions when the ‘runners up’ are performing the same role in theatres all over the country????

I think we are all getting sucked in by BBC T.V. one way or another and I hate it! (But I will still, no doubt, be watching on Sat night again - right after Dr. Who! lol!!!).

Barry Humphries is a bit of a lech is’nt he? And seeing as the girls dont come up to scratch in his estimation maybe Dame Edna should be Nancy……… or perhaps our Graham…he is after all the biggest Nancy of the lot!

  10. chezza Says:

I have left comments several times on the official I`d Do Anything site, they havent been printed, possibley because i suggest that ALW will get the final HE wants - with Jessie and Sam in it.
I agree with what the comments BING posted 14th May.
Rachel has gone from being a golden girl, to `not conecting with the words`(remember the first few weeks she couldnt put a foot wrong?), because ALW cant help making it obvious who he wants in his final show and i am sorry Rachel, it aint you! Ashley would have been a great Nancy, she had proved she could sing, act and took a lot of flack off the panel. ALW said he thought Niamh to young for Nancy, but he still saved her over Ashely.
Look out this week Rachel, Niamh and Jodie. ALW only wants Jessie and Sam in the final.
I think all the girls are great. Ireland has shown what a wealth of talent they have on offer and i love them all and hope for the voting public`s sake, that the best girl does win, regardless of ALW.

  11. PegWood Says:

Exactly the same thing happened to me on the BBC website; they didn’t post my comment that I thought ALW was far too harsh on Ashley. They said they ‘will post the best comments’ mmmm. They obviously won’t allow any criticism of the judging panel, unlike the criticism the poor girls have to take!

  12. Jennell Says:

I have tried several times to post comments on the BBC site. They haven’t shown any of them. It seems to me they only print comments like —-I love?????- she is great—-?????to win—etc

I agree that ALW is a great manipulator. I have said so several times in various places. Unfortunately, a large number of the voting public appear to head what he says and vote accordingly.

I must add that I do think that the standard of the finalists in this show is below that of previous efforts. I had some spare time at the weekend as BJ was asleep and Dan took the other three out, so I looked at some of the old programs and was stunned at how good the finalists all were and how professional they seemed compared to the ones we have in this show.

I must admit too that Barry Humphreys makes me nauseated. Whenever they show a close up of him my 9 year old groans and my 13 year old makes gagging noises. I feel like joining them——

  13. Leafy Says:

Have to agree about Barry AND ALW! My husband won’t watch because it says it’s all a fix - ALW will get what he wants in the end. I can’t understand why Barry is there. What does he add? Bring back Zoë. I thought she was a bit harsh at times but we knew she knew what she was talking about. When Barry says he’s never heard of most of the songs it’s just embarrassing. I think Niamh should go this week; she’s out of her depth and looks all wrong for the part.

  14. chezza Says:

PEG and JENNELL! So it isnt just me who the BBC have been keeping off their comments page! Isnt it a shame that in our country, where freedom of speech and thought are basic human rights, the BBC obviously vet all the comments left for their website before posting them, in case we, the viewing public who watch, vote and make programmes like this successful, should dare find fault with the experts and their opinions, especially those very superior ones of ALW!
The BBC should be big enough to accept that the thousands of us that watch the show arent all going to agree with ALW and the `expert` pannel.
At least John Barrowman has the guts to express an opinion that seems to be his own and he doesnt appear afraid to have one that is different to the that of ALW. Good on you for that John!
I agree with LEAFY and JENNELL with regard to Barry. As for DVO, okay she has had some theatre success, but i am not entirely sure she is that genuine and she probably wants to keep on the good side of ALW in case she wants another theatre job!

  15. morven82 Says:

I agree with the comments about Ashley…I didn’t like her at first (even though I’m a Scot) but I really warmed to her and she was so much better than Niamh in the last few shows, and definitely better in the sing off. Niamh sings like Cilla Black.

Jessie is totally lopsided, and moves the same way every week…scuttles across the stage, grabs her hair or her dress and looks upset. Sam is too young, but she has talent, Rachel is unconvincing, Niamh should be sent home…for me, it’s Jodie. She’s so real and appreciative of everything the panel says.
