The Results: Week 1
The girls opened the results the show with a corny version of I’d Do Anything which resembled an episode of Seaside Special, it was that dated!
We then see a montage of yesterday’s performances and still, Rachel stands out as a clear winner for me. They are then sent on a Nancy mission!
Not quite the mission you might expect, nor that impossible, really.
They had to prove how working class they could be as the show is about an old cockney sparra, don’t cha know! So, the girls have to mix with locals and work on an East End market stall. Quite cruel really as you might imagine some of their V.T’s highlighting that this is where they might end up if we don’t vote for them!
Cut to Andrew eating jellied eels and John Barrowman laughing uncontrollably.
Our Nancys then sing Sound Of The Underground and all this really proves is how good Girls Aloud actually are, as there is no sense of fun in the Nancy version. Instead we witness a bunch of Desperados over egging a pop song.
Who Shone?
When asked who stood out here, Denise says Jodie and Jessie and Barry says Samantha and Jessie.
Who Is not Nancy?
When asked who was not Nancy, John said Amy, Denise cited Tara as the weakest link and Barry agreed with John.
First through is……
Cleo, followed by Samantha and Rachel. Next one through is (first shock result, folks!) Tara, along with Keisha. Another shock result as Ashley goes through although the Scottish vote is a powerful one; ask the MacDonald Brothers from X Factor! Jodie goes through and cries uncontrollably like a kid being told she can have the operation! Niamh, Sarah and Jessie are all through.
Reality TV Cliche Alert
The first shock in the bottom two to make the audience gasp. Yep, West End Wendy , I mean Francesca is in the bottom two, alongside Amy. Although you know who will be saved before it’s even called.
Graham then says the quote of the evening: “Amy there is still hope (yeah right!), as Andrew could still save you.” The poor girl stands there, knowing she is out, whatever she pulls out of the bag.
As the two of them sing Tell Me On A Sunday, Amy seems the stronger performer; exuding confidence yet a vulnerable side also. Francesca seems to hiss her way through the number and is definitely the weaker performer.
The Lord comes out with the second best quote of the evening: “It’s a tough Sunday!” (even though it’s a Saturday!).
He saves………….. Denise’s old co star, Francesca (what a shocker!) and Amy sings As Long As He Needs Me, whilst wondering why on earth she bothered, as her fate had been decided, the minute Francesca’s name was called!
All the other girls look relieved; Tara, Ashley and Jodie will be cleaning the floors and making tea next week, so thankful that they “have been given this chance!”
Never mind girls, you still have the chance to sing more unsuitable pop songs, as you are back for another week, at least!
I’m off to watch Gavin & Stacey now. Is the little Oliver who led the lads singing Bright Eyes, Stacey and Gav’s as he is very ‘Barry Island’ for a Dickens character?!!

It is the illusion that it’s filmed on a Sunday that I was referring to Jennell.

By the way, I bumped into Sarah Lark yesterday in London, and told her, in no uncertain terms, that she was/is head and shoulders above the rest. If there is any justice in this world, she will go all the way.

To Glenn Meads,
Sorry, I am not English. I didn’t quite understand some of your piece. I agree that it was obvious that Francesca would be saved though. She also sang flat.
