Awake and Sing! at the Almeida

Following our Whatsonstage.com Outings to open-air venues such as Shakespeare’s Globe and Regent’s Park, we decided that since Summer probably isn’t going to arrive after all, we’d take the outings back under-cover. So we returned to the Almeida last night to see Stockard Channing in Awake and Sing! and actually it turned out to be a rather splendid evening weather-wise (unlike Holding Fire!), not to mention the show. Although Stockard was unable to stay for our post-show drinks, I can safely say that we all enjoyed her performance immensely.

The package for this event included a free drink following the show and a meet-and-greet with the fantastic cast. The Almedia’s open front of house area gave us all plenty of space to mingle and the friendly staff went out of their way to help, and seemed to enjoy themselves too! Over 100 Whatsonstagers attended the performance and many stayed for the post show event where we saw Stockard Channing briefly (before she ran to catch a taxi), and most of the cast including Trevor Cooper, Paul Jesson, Nigel Lindsay, John Lloyd Fillingham, John Rogan, Ben Turner and Jodie Whittaker.

Last week Awake and Sing! was a hit with the critics, winning four-star reviews from the Guardian, Times, Time Out, Metro, Mail on Sunday and Whatsonstage.com. Last night the play proved a big hit with the (sell-out) audience as well.

We’ve added a few photos from the exclusive meet-and-greet here. If you attended the event and took photos, please do email them to editorial@whatsonstage.com and we’ll share them here too. And of course, add your own comments about the event either here or on the main Discussion Forum. You can also add your verdict on Awake and Sing! to our User Reviews for the show – and spread the word!

We look forward to seeing you all again soon.
